The neck can be a common problem area for many people. It is often the area that shows our age first. Luckily, with a neck lift, you can turn back the hands of time and stump anyone trying to guess your age. Whether you’re struggling with excess skin, a “turkey neck,” jowls, or a double chin, a neck lift can address all those concerns and more.
What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that is used to improve visible signs of aging along the jawline and neck. The procedure can remove excess skin and fat, tighten loose skin, and address muscle banding on the neck, achieving a more youthful look.
A neck lift can be done along with a facelift, brow lift, eyelid surgery, and/or lip augmentation.

- Those with realistic expectations
- Those struggling with the appearance of their neck
CRISALIX 3D IMAGING
One of the hardest parts of getting cosmetic surgery is knowing what you’ll look like after the procedure is done. Dr. Andrews can describe the procedure and the results perfectly, but being unable to see it can make some patients apprehensive. With the Crisalix 3D Imaging software, you can actually see a visualization of your “after” pictures.
At Dr. Andrews Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer the Crisalix 3D imaging technology. This game-changing tool allows you to see your “after” before you ever schedule your procedure.
Learn MoreThe Neck Lift Procedure
Like most cosmetic procedures, a neck lift will begin with the administration of anesthesia. General anesthesia or IV sedation will be used. Once that kicks in, an incision will be made near the hairline and around the ear. From there, the neck skin and tissue will be repositioned, and excess skin and fat will be removed. Another incision will be made under the chin if liposuction is necessary in that area. Once everything is repositioned, sutures are used to close the incision.
Recovery
As the recovery process begins, a bandage will be placed around the face and the neck to minimize swelling and bruising. A drain may also be inserted to drain any excess blood or fluid under the skin. Dr. Andrews will also provide you with instructions on how to take care of your incisions and what to avoid.
You will want to keep your head elevated to minimize swelling and keep your head as straight as possible. You’ll also want to avoid applying ice to the neck as it could affect blood flow.
Once healed, the incision lines from a neck lift are usually hidden within the hairline and behind the ears.
You may see some improvement immediately, but the swelling hides most of the results. The final results take a few weeks before they show up.
